"E notevole l'interesse di Giovanni Crisostomo al tema della parrhesia. Non solo per la frequente ricorrenza del termine nella sua produzione omiletica, ma soprattutto per la ricchezza contenutistica che egli le riconosce. Erede della semantica politica, che indicava nella parrhesia il diritto del cittadino ateniese a parlare liberamente nell'ekklesia, e di quella filosofica, che v'individuava invece la qualità di chi sapeva dominare le proprie passioni, il Padre antiocheno la legge alla luce della rivelazione biblica. Con la parrhesia egli perciò definisce da un lato il dialogo confidente con Dio da parte del discepolo di Cristo, e dall'altro la franchezza dell'annuncio kerygmatico così com'era stato condotto agli inizi del cristianesimo. Da vescovo di Costantinopoli, commentando il libro degli Atti, egli ha fatto largo uso della parrhesia, che i testimoni del Risorto avevano ricevuto in dono a Pentecoste per avviare e portare nel mondo l'annuncio della vittoria di Gesù Cristo sulla morte. In queste cinquantacinque Omelie, le uniche in lingua greca dei primi dieci secoli che ci siano giunte in forma integrale sugli Atti degli Apostoli, il predicatore fa risaltare le doti della franchezza apostolica presentandola come modello di evangelizzazione per ogni stagione ecclesiale"-- Back cover.
